All those verses in Daniel were about the Greeks, so sorry, no prediction about 9/11 there.

Bible Prophecy of 9/11
by AshtonCA inwas wondering if anyone else knew 9/11 was going to happen before it did?
my mother, when leaving the org.
back in the early 90's began researching the bible (not the nwt because it was too flawed), she used the kjv and the niv, she also used strongs and a bible that had both greek and hebrew in it right along side the english.

My Favorite Songs of 2004
by Leolaia inevery year since 1991 i have been making my own "mix-tape" (since 1998, my own "mix-tape" cd) of my favorite songs of the year.
i have just completed my cd for 2004. one of the real pleasures of doing this is finding the right track order to make the styles of the songs flow smoothly from one to another, while keeping some semblance of the chronological progression of the year.
i thought it might be interesting to post my list and see if anyone else has their own similar list for the past year:.

You seem to have a lot of winners from last night's Brit awards on the list.
Keane's 'Somewhere Only We Know' is my favourite song from last year. The Scissor Sisters album is great too (in a very camp way!).
At the moment I'm listening to Death in Vegas and an Ozzie band called Jet.
Are groups like Scissor Sisters still unacceptable to Americans? I read somewhere that the video for Queen's 'I want to break free' virtually killed off their career in the US.
I think last night's Brit awards shows we're finally leaving behind the days of crap boy bands with instant hits that disappear after 12 months. A & R men have realised that groups like Keane and Franz Ferdinand sell far more CDs and last longer if given time to develop. I hope some of these bands manage to make it in the US.

'Who Wrote the Bible' - terrific book!
by GetBusyLiving ini bought the book 'who wrote the bible' by richard friedman.. wow!
this guy is a really respected scholar, not some crackpot-prediction-making jackass.
as a typical jw, i didn't know much about how absurd the idea of moses writing the first five books of the bible really is.

I think another great read is "The Bible Unearthed" by Finkelstein and Silberman.
Shows much of the politics involved in compiling and editing the bible books. I found this an easier read than "Who wrote the bible".

DNA - belief destuction
by donkey inthe single largest reason to decimate my belief in jw?s and all biblical faith occurred when i discovered some facts about our cells.
specifically a part of the cell called mitochondria.
mitochondria are sometimes described as "cellular power plants" because their primary purpose is to manufacture adenosine triphosphate (atp), which is used as a source of energy that the cell uses.. as humans one inherits one?s mitochondria only from one's mother, this finding implies that all living humans have a female line of descent from a woman whom researchers have dubbed mitochondrial eve.

a Christian,
I think the creation story in Genesis 1 - 2:3 is written by men who thought the Earth was the centre of that creation. I think people living 3 millenia ago would have understood a sentence such as "and Elohim made the Moon to circle around the Earth, and the Earth to circle around the Sun".
Someone on this board once re-wrote Genesis 1 as it should have been if truly inspired, i.e. easy for ancient people to understand and yet at the same time be scientifically correct. Unfortunately I can't remember who it was or which thread it was in.

Leolaia,
Try saving your posts in notepad or Word as you go along. As long as it's pasted into notepad before copying to the forum you won't get any formatting errors.
Schizm,
I'd love you to see you try and answer some of Gordy's points. In fact I'd love you to try and answer anything really.
Think of this. Let's say one day very unfortunately you popped off. God then thinks. Hey, I actually liked that little Schizm, let's resurrect him. So he recreates you with the exact same personality, memories and body. Would this really be you or just a clone of you (Think Blade Runner). Without an immortal soul to put back in wouldn't you still be six feet under with your clone running around happily in paradise.

I was given Rolf's book by my parents after a discussion of 607.
They've been told he's one of the top liguists in his field and that's enough for them. They haven't even read it themselves. What I'd really love to know is how Rolfie is actually viewed by his peers, as an expert or a crackpot?

It's quite a few years since I read any fantasy novels. Maybe I should dig a few out of my attic.
But the very best I ever read was Julian May. The Many Colored Land, The Golden Torc, The Non-Born King, The Adversary, Intervention, Jack the Bodiless, Diamond Mask, Magnificat.
I've read the Saga of the Exiles twice and I do think they opened my mind to other concepts and helped me to leave the WTS. Not bad for a set of novels!
I suppose they are more Si-fi than Fantasy.
